MariThane 'S'
Paint-like Marine Coating
MariThane ‘S’ is a versatile, Mix-and-Apply coating (single-component-plus-catalyst) that offers excellent resistance to corrosion, abrasion, and cathodic disbondment in a wide variety of fresh and salt water marine applications. Self-priming, it achieves initial cure in 30 to 90 minutes (depending on the user’s choice of three available catalysts) and is typically applied in three coats. It can also be used over our MariThane Liquid Zinc, a next-generation Zinc Rich Primer. Several color choices are available.
MariThane 'S' can be applied over surfaces prepared in any of the traditional ways, e.g. abrasive blasting. In addition, it can also be used in conjunction with Madison’s "No-Blast" technology, which offers an economical, non-invasive, environmentally-friendly alternative.
Typical Applications
Any paintable metal surface on ships, offshore structures or coastal structures. Ideal for smaller jobs or where the convenience of a paint-like product is paramount.
Application Instructions and Technical Data
MariThane ‘S’ should be applied in coats of up to 10 wet mils under normal environmental conditions. Overbuild will result in to prevent foaming, sagging and pinholing. Depending on the severity of the service, two or three coats are the norm. Alternatively, apply one coat (or, at most, two) over top of MariThane Liquid Zinc. Extreme humidity can cause same problems as overbuild but can usually be overcome by heating the substrate to about 80-100°F prior to coating application, or reducing the film thickness per coat (less than seven mils).
Available Variations
MariThane ‘S’ (AM) is a modified version of MariThane ‘S’ that contains MicroSpear, an EPA-registered anti-microbial agent to prevent microbially-induced corrosion (MIC) for extended service life in harsh environments containing wastes and other organic matter.
MariThane ‘S’ (CM) is a modified version that contains Nano-Shield, an additive consisting of microscopic spheres of real ceramic that enhances the abrasion and impact resistance of the finished product without detracting from other physical properties.
AM and CM can be specified together in your special version of MariThane ‘S’ where service conditions require it.
