MariThane 1:4 Aliphatic is a high-performance hybrid coating (polyurethane cross-linked with acrylic that offers excellent color fastness and gloss retention in moderate to heavy service conditions, both above and below the water line. Its enamel-like finish is designed to last for years with little to no maintenance. This product can be used direct-to-metal or with a primer (such as MariThane Liquid Zinc) or as a top coating over a number of Madison's aromatic polyurethane corrosion protection systems (such as MariThane Multi and MariThane 3000). It is resistant to most aqueous solutions including salt water and dilute acids and alkalis, and is ideal for aquaria and storage containers.

There are two versions of MariThane 1:4 Aliphatic. The semi-gloss version contains about 60% solids and can be applied to about 6 to 8 dry mils per coat. It is often applied in a “fog-coat-full-coat” manner to provide quick, easy protection. The high-gloss version contains about 80% solids and is applied at a rate of about three to five dry mils per coat. It can be applied in a single coat over an aromatic base coat, such as MariThane II Multi for maximum performance or in three coats if applied as an all-in-one system.

Application Summary

MariThane 1:4 Aliphatic is a Mix-and-Apply format aliphatic system. Both versions apply like paint, most commonly with an airless spray gun at pressures in the 2,000 to 2,500 psi range. The semi-gloss version has a pot life of about four to six hours and is cured-to-touch in about 45 minutes. The high gloss version has a pot life of 1 to 1½ hours and is cured to touch in three to four hours.

Available Variations

MariThane 1:4 Aliphatic (AM) is a modified version of MariThane 1:4 Aliphatic that contains Madison MicroSpear™, an EPA registered Anti-Microbial agent which helps prevent microbially induced corrosion (MIC), and thus offers extended service life in harsh environments. MariThane 1:4 Aliphatic (CM) contains Madison Nano-Shield™, a ceramic modification that offers enhanced abrasion resistance and is ideal for highly abrasive.

AM and CM additives can be specified together in your special version of MariThane 1:4 Aliphatic.
