CorroPipe 1:4 Aliphatic

High Performance Above-Ground Pipeline Topcoat

CorroPipe 1:4 Aliphatic is a strong, tough hybrid coating, composed of aliphatic polyurethane cross-linked with acrylic resins.

There are two somewhat different versions of CorroPipe 1:4 Aliphatic. The semi-gloss version contains about 60% solids and can be applied to about six to eight dry mils (150 to 200 microns) per coat. Because of its ability to achieve significant film build, it is often applied directly to the substrate in a “fog-coat-full-coat” manner to provide quick easy protection in mild to moderate service conditions. Alternatively, the semi-gloss version is often used over CorroPipe Zinc Rich Primer on aboveground pipe and similar metallic structures. This version features an unusually-long pot life and has a cure-to-touch time of about 45 minutes. When coating bare pipe on site, the combination of CorroPipe Zinc Rich Primer and CorroPipe 1:4 Aliphatic Semi-Gloss will yield high performance results without the necessity of special application equipment, as both are paint-like to use.

The high-gloss version contains about 80% solids and meets the tougher solvent emission standards that exist is some jurisdictions. Film build is in the range of three to five dry mils (75 to 125 microns) per coat and it is typically used over an aromatic base coat like CorroPipe II Omni in order to provide UV protection in aboveground applications.

Both versions of CorroPipe 1:4 Aliphatic provide excellent gloss retention and color fastness. They are resistant to aqueous solutions of all kinds including salt water and dilute acids and alkalis.

Typical Applications

External coating of above-ground pipes where ease of application and paint-like application properties are critical.

Application Summary

CorroPipe 1:4 Aliphatic is a Mix-and-Apply (1:4 ratio) format system. It applies like paint, most commonly with an airless spray gun at pressures in the 2,000 to 2,500 psi range. It can also be applied by brush or roller. The 60% solids version has a pot life of three to four hours, but sets quickly when applied (cured to touch in about 45 minutes), while the 80% solids version has a pot life of 1 to 1.5 hours and is cured to touch in about three to four hours.
