AcrylaThane 5200
Acrylic Aliphatic Exterior Coating System
This high performance, direct-to-metal (DTM) aliphatic polyurethane topcoat utilizes aircraft grade acrylic resins and pigments to provide exceptional gloss retention and color fastness. It is the product of choice for a wide variety of industrial applications where both performance and appearance are primary concerns.
AcrylaThane 5200 is provided in a Mix-and-Apply format and applies like paint to a thickness of about three to four mils (75 to 100 microns). It can be used on its own directly to the substrate but is more typically applied over a corrosion resistant primer (CorroPrime for medium duty or AlumiZinc “S” for heavy duty) or a base coat from the aromatic polyurethane family (e.g. CorroCote) or the epoxy family (one of the MG series).
An important feature of AcrylaThane 5200 is its high yield; it contains almost 90% active ingredients, and very low VOC's (solvent).
When AcrylaThane 5200 is applied directly to concrete or metal, it is no longer necessary to blast the substrate. It works very well over surfaces that have been prepared using Madison’s FerroGrip or GalvaGrip Surface Conditioners.
When cured, AcrylaThane 5200 provides excellent resilience, abrasion resistance and adhesion. The glossy, easily cleanable, non-absorbent finish is resistant to aqueous solutions (including salt water) and diluted acid and alkali.
Typical Applications
Application Summary
AcrylaThane 5200 is a Mix-and-Apply format (1:4 ratio) aliphatic system. It applies like paint, most commonly with an airless spray gun at pressures in the 2,000 to 2,500 psi range. It has a pot life of 1 to 1.5 hrs and is cured to touch in about three to four hours.
Related Products
AcrylaThane 55 is a product in the same format. It has a faster cure-to-touch time, a longer pot life and a higher film build, making it very suitable for one-coat direct-to-substrate applications. Finish is semi-gloss. Yield (solids content) is in the 55-58% range.
Available Variations
AcrylaThane 5200 (AM) is a version of this product that contains MicroSpear, an EPA-registered anti-microbial agent. While the coating itself is naturally resistant to bacterial attack, MicroSpear resists the growth of mould and mildew on the surface of the coating (a health concern in many applications) and minimizes the risk of MIC (Microbially Induced Corrosion).
AcrylaThane 5200 (CM) is a version of this product containing NanoShield, an additive consisting of microscopic spheres of real ceramic that enhance the abrasion and impact resistance of the finished product without detracting from other physical properties.
AM and CM can be specified together in your special version of AcrylaThane 5200 where service conditions require.
