GemBond is a proprietary adhesion-enhancing compound which, when used on metals of all kinds (carbon steel, galvanizing, aluminum, and weathering steel (Corten)), greatly increases the adhesion of Madison’s GemThane® coatings. In many applications, GemBond can eliminate the need for elaborate surface preparation such as abrasive blasting.

The product is an aqueous dispersion that is easy to use and environmentally-friendly. It contains Madison’s AP-50 Adhesion Promoter™ as well as a rust-dissolving agent, a powerful degreaser and a rust inhibiter. These all work synergistically to create adhesion comparable to commercial-grade abrasive blasting.

Simply apply GemBond by brush or using a low pressure garden sprayer. Let it soak in for 15 to 20 minutes on galvanized surfaces and for 45 to 60 minutes on carbon steel surfaces, then remove by power washing (1000 psi is adequate) and force dry surface before coating. GemBond can be used in conjunction with a number of GemThane coatings which contain the same AP-50 Adhesion Promoter.
